These healthy baked carrot chips for dogs are easy to make. Plus, they are a gluten-free, low-fat treat your dog will love. And, if you’re lucky, your dog might share with you. That’s right, these yummy treats are for you, too.

Carrots are super healthy and you can read about their benefits in our Carrot Crunch Cookies recipe post. By the way, my two dogs couldn’t eat these cookies fast enough. So, this might be the next treat recipe you make for your dog.

My dog’s reaction to the cookies motivated me to try another recipe with carrots. I had a bag of organic pre-cut carrots in the refrigerator that nobody was touching. Plus, the bag had “carrot chips” written in bold letters.

So, I thought, why not healthy baked carrot chips for dogs? Not only are the carrots healthy, but so is the coconut oil and Ceylon cinnamon.

I have already talked about the health benefits of coconut oil and Ceylon cinnamon on this site. However, in this post I want to share with you the extra health punch parsley and oregano give.

Parsley on Healthy Baked Carrot Chips for Dogs

Parsley is considered a super herb for us, humans. Likewise, it’s safe and healthy for your dog. Therefore, your dog will get great benefits when you add this herb to their treats and food.

Plus, it tastes good. That’s why I added it to these healthy baked carrot chips for dogs. Sounded like a great pairing to me!

However, stick to the curly-leafed variety of parsley for your dog. According to the ASPCA, spring parsley, also known as Italian parsley is considered to be toxic for dogs. By the way, this would be in large portions.

The antimicrobial properties in parsley will prevent germs and bacteria from taking over your dog’s mouth. As a result, your dog will have fresher breath and you will get sweeter kisses.

In addition to fresh breath, parsley provides the following benefits for your dog:

  • anti-inflammatory properties help with arthritis pain
  • antimicrobial properties promote urinary health
  • diuretic properties help prevent urinary tract infections
  • antiseptic properties fight bee stings when used as a poultice
  • richness of Vitamin C helps with immune support
  • Vitamin A content helps with vision and eye health
  • natural source of Vitamin K helps maintain healthy blood clotting and promotes liver health
  • fiber content helps flush out fluids and move foods through the digestive tract

Oregano on Healthy Baked Carrot Chips for Dogs

More than any other spice, oregano has the highest amount of antioxidants, so it’s considered a super spice. Furthermore, oregano has many more antioxidants than blueberries and apples. Therefore, it will provide immune system support for your dog.

Adding this mint-like herb to healthy baked carrot chips for dogs accentuates the taste with earthy flavors. However, this pungent herb should be consumed moderately by your dog to avoid an upset stomach.

Oregano is a rich source of vitamins A, C, and K. In addition, it is high in Omega-3’s, calcium, iron, manganese, and dietary fiber.

In addition to these nutrients, oregano provides the following benefits for your dog:

  • antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties cleanse the body from toxins
  • reduces inflammation and swelling
  • helps with arthritis by alleviating pain and improving joint movements
  • destroys free radicals

Let’s Bake Healthy Baked Carrot Chips for Dogs

Healthy baked carrot chips for dogs are a tantalizing treat because they are naturally sweet. In addition, they make a great chip because they turn very crisp in the oven.

Speaking of turning very crisp, you will want to watch them closely at the end of the baking. Based on experience, these chips can go from crispy to burnt in a matter of seconds.

You will need the following ingredients to make healthy baked carrot chips for dogs:

  • bag of organic pre-cut carrots
  • coconut oil
  • parsley
  • oregano
  • Ceylon cinnamon

You will need to bake using the following step-by-step directions:

Firstly, preheat your oven to 425 degrees F.

Secondly, line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

Thirdly, place the organic pre-cut carrot slices in a large ziplock baggie.

Then, add the oil, parsley, oregano, and Ceylon cinnamon to the bag.

Next, shake the bag well to thoroughly coat. I use a zip lock baggie rather than a bowl. I feel like the oil coats the vegetables better and the spices stick better.

After that, lay the slices in a single layer on the baking sheet.

Lastly, bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the edges start to curl up and turn crisp. Then, flip all of the carrots over and bake another 5 to 8 minutes to crisp the bottoms. It is during these last minutes that you will want to watch them closely.

Next, take them out of the oven and place them on a cooling rack to thoroughly cool.

You can store them in an airtight container for up to two weeks.

The best part of making these healthy baked carrot chips is sharing them with your dog. My two fur kids begged for more. And, they did share a couple with me.

Sum It Up

I am thrilled with how much my dogs love these chips! Mainly because they are healthy and I don’t feel guilty when I give them a couple extra.

The next time I try these, I plan to use fresh carrots. That way I can control how thin the slices are.
