Not sure how, but my dogs know when I am cooking with cheese in the kitchen. Maybe it’s the smell or hearing the bag open and they come running. So, getting out the ingredients for applesauce dog treats with cheese, I had company.

Bella stays under my feet the entire time, anticipating a shred to fall to the ground. Therefore, while making these applesauce dog treats with cheese, I let a little cheese fall to the floor.

Haha! I mean, what kind of dog mommy would I be if I didn’t give in to those begging eyes. After the baking, we all three had a taste test! A little bland for my human taste buds,  but Bella and Edward were sniffing around for more.

In addition, I had two more dogs taste these applesauce dog treats with cheese before sharing this recipe with you. I bagged up a few and took them to the school I work at. Two of my favorite teachers post about their fur babies on Facebook, so Fluffy and Bentley did some more taste testing for us.

Their dog mom’s reported back the next day with, “He LOVED the treats and says, thank you!” So, there you go…four adorable pup taste testers and one dog mom approve this recipe!

So, are you wondering if it is okay for dogs to eat cheese? Yes, it is, according to the AKC. However, they say many dogs can be intolerant of cheese and to give it in moderation.

  • Place dough onto parchment paper lightly covered with rice flour. (I did not have parchment paper so I used wax paper instead.)
  • Using a rice floured rolling pin, roll dough until ¼  to ½ inch thickness. (If you happen to be like me and lost your rolling pin in a move, then use any can you have. to do the rolling.)

  • Cut out desired shapes. (I made the little paw imprint using my thumb and  pinkie finger, pressing down and then used the tip of my nail to distinguish it a little  more.)

  • Don’t let that dough go to waste. Roll it up into a ball, roll out flat and cut out a  few more treats. (I was able to roll it two more times from the first ball.)
