I’m glad you are about to make these dog treats for your fur baby! You can use steel cut oats. I didn’t specify in my recipe what kind. From the photos, I can tell I used old fashioned oats. Most of my other recipes I use organic rolled oats. Just make sure you don’t use instant oats, because they contain sugar.

Hi Jeyani,
I’m so happy that Luna and Pebbles love the treats. I have found that homemade dog treats last two to three weeks by placing them in an airtight container or a baggie and storing them in the refrigerator. You can also freeze them and thaw out a few at a time if you want. The amount they can have will depend on your dog’s size and the size you make the treats. I give my small dogs two to three small treats throughout the day, such as one in the morning, sometimes one in the afternoon, and one after dinner. Hi Susan,
I am certainly glad your dogs like the taste. However, I am sad they did not hold together for you. Did you allow the dough to rest for 5 minutes, allowing the oats to expand? If you did, then you could try adding a flour such as wheat or oat. Start by adding a 1/4 cup and knead, then continuing adding until you feel like the dough has the right consistency.
